Who operates the Tigard School-Based Health center?
Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center operates the Tigard and the Tualatin school-based health centers in partnership with Washington County, Lifeworks NW and the Tigard Tualatin School District. Virginia Garcia also operates SBHC's in Beaverton, Forest Grove, Hillsboro and Willamina.
Who can utilize the Tigard SBHC?
Any child within the Tigard-Tualatin School District the Sherwood School district can receive care at the Tigard SBHC. Currently we see ages birth to age 20. We also see adult employees of the school district and their family members for urgent care visits.
Are there licensed medical providers on staff?
Absolutely, the SBHC has a licensed Nurse Practitioner and a Mental Health Therapist on staff, plus a Dental Hygienist.
What about insurance?
The SBHC can bill most private health insurance plans and may collect a co-pay at the time of your visit. Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is also accepted, which does not require a co-pay. Contact the SBHC to see if they can take your insurance.
No insurance? No problem. If you don't have insurance and haven't applied for OHP we can make an appointment with staff member who is an OHP specialist who can help you apply. if you don't qualify for OHP, you can still qualify for a discounted fee, based on income. Families that earn less will pay less.
What information do I need to bring?
At the time of your first appointment you will need photo identification, insurance and income information, and possibly a signed consent form.
When do I need a signed consent form?
Any individual 14 years or younger needs a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian to receive physical health services.
Any individual 13 years and younger needs a consent form signed by a prent or legal guardian to receive mental health services.
Reproductive and sexual health information can be received at any age without consent of a parent or guardian.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are preferred, but if you have an urgent need, you can walk in. To make an appointment simply call the SBHC (503-431-5775) to schedule, or walk in and request a visit.
Is my appointment confidential?
Your privacy and safety are a priority at the SBHC. In general, adolescents have a right to privacy regarding some health information. If there is a safety concern, we are required to reprot by law. SBHC staff work with youth of all ages to involve parents/guardians in their care. If you have any questions about the confidentiality of your care, please ask our knowlegeable staff.
Can the SBHC work with my doctor?
Absolutely, SBHC staff can coordinate with your Primary Care Physician regarding chronic illness care or treatment and other medical concerns. Licensed staff can also refer you to a specialist when needed.
Can I get my teeth cleaned at the SBHC?
Yes, you can make an appointment with our licensed Dental Hygienist to have a dental screening, cleaning and sealants.
Is the SBHC open in the summer?
Yes! The SBHC is open during the summer months, with modified hours.
